Where did this all start? About 3–4 days ago, one of my Serbian friends Luka Gabasti introduced me to a documentary called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. It was about a guy named Joe Cross who had a pretty bad skin disease called urticaria. After getting tired of popping pills, he decided to go on a 60-day liquid diet of just vegetables and fruit. The idea is that juices help your body to absorb more micro-nutrients due to the liquid intake form, and gives your body a chance to be close to the natural unprocessed state of food.

Day 1. – 8h30am

I am heading to work and stopped at Juice Bar in Eaton center. I had a coffee and a smoothie with kale, spinach, cauliflower, apple juice and 20g of Vega protein.

Apparently the freak-out mode starts on day two. So far so good.

I work in the middle of downtown, on the corner of Sherbrooke and McGill, so there are few juice bars around the block.

Reddit is my go-to website when it comes to finding info about pretty much everything, so I joined r/Juicing

I don’t have a juicer yet but found few at Canadian Tire at Atwater, including this Juicer for 200$.  Juicer separates the juice from pulp and since most nutrients stay in the liquid the body can assimilate them better.

The idea is to drink five to six juices a day without having to digest the fiber. It provides more vitamins and nutrients than eating one type of produce, and can also lead to significant weight loss.

There are two kinds of juicers:

1.- CENTRIFUGAL JUICER
A centrifugal juicer extracts the juice with a spinning metal blade which presses the contents against a strainer. The juice drains off into a waiting container, leaving the pulp behind for disposal.

The low price centrifugal juicers means that they are the most popular type on the market. They do the job well enough but do have some drawbacks. The heat of the spinning blades destroys some of the nutrients in the juice, so they are not the best choice for anyone who plans to start juicing primarily for the health benefits.

2.- COLD PRESS OR MASTICATING JUICER
The masticating juicer works by pressing and crushing the ingredients to remove the juice. Also known as slow juicers because of the longer juicing time, they are extremely efficient at extracting juice and retaining the all-important nutrients.

Despite being generally regarded as superior, slow juicers are less popular than centrifugal juicers. They are larger and more expensive to buy and therefore more suitable for dedicated juicers who are keen to get the best possible health benefits from their juices.

Day 1 Lunch Time: 12h30

I found this juice place right next to my office: Just Pressed at 2020, Robert Bourassa. So I went and the place looked great. All their juices are organic and cold pressed.

Staff was accommodating and gave me some tips. I had beet juice with carottes, pineapple, oranges, limon and ginger.

3h30pm – I AM STARVING.

Heading back to Just Pressed for another juice.

3h45

I got Mean Greens: Cucumber, celery, apples, kale, basil, lime and spinach. Literarily drank the juice in 2 min.

Less hungry but starting to see whats coming. This is going to be one hard challenge.

9h30pm End of day 1

Still no Juicer so I got home and blended bunch of kale, apples, avocados and oranges, added some almond powder from BulkBarn and made something that looks mostly like a fruit/vegie soup.

Hunger levels ok.

DAY 2 – 11h30

Had bunch of blended veggies last night and two apples this morning. Still not hungry but light headed and stating to get moody. I have few important meetings tomorrow and Friday and starting to worry about my focus.

1h45pm After Lunch

Starting getting super light headed so I had a giant soup and a smoothie from Jugo Juice. Back to myself now.

5h45

Got a juicer at Canadian Tire on Atwater. Made my first official juice.
