Montreal is probably by far one of the most well-dressed cities in Canada. This city though has gone through a few losses in the last few years; losing Mango, Esprit, BCBG and other European brands. Even though Montreal fashion-lovers are safe, quality lovers have been struggling a tat. Quality clothing is rare to find and prices have gotten more expensive, even for Forever 21 and H&M; and while their quality isn’t that great, it’s slightly better than what it used to be 5 years ago. Given the unified theme in patterns and styles, standing out in Montreal is hard; when you walk down the streets during the summer (let’s be honest) – everyone is dressed the same. The real-deal fashionistas out there who are looking to combine European styles are probably wondering where to shop in Montreal to get the best styles, in the best quality and for the best value (well, you may need to splurge a bit more for better quality). COS is the higher end of H&M and they nailed it! COS offers by far some of the best and timeless quality clothing you can find in Montreal. The store is spacious, well-organized and has just enough items that it isn’t overwhelming. Item prices though span between $80+.

Aritzia

This store has been open in Montreal for a few years now and people are still intimidated to walk in due to the prices, but compared to some of the prices at H&M, I find it reasonably priced on most items. The store has gained a lot of popularity in the last year due to the quality of their fabrics and their amazing cuts. Their clothes make people look on-point so effortlessly. I’ve never worn an item from there where people didn’t stop me to ask where I got it from, even when I was in the States.

Oh, Club Monaco! How I love you. Classic, clean, incredibly pricy but items bought from there will never run out of style. Great place to shop if you’re willing to splurge and spend over $120 on an item. Not worth it for T-Shirts and other basics though.

You never find this store busy and it is a gold mine so as long as you avoid the graphic tees that have the AX brand logo on it. They have amazing skirts, pants and jackets that are truly statement pieces for your closet, not to mention that their basics and accessories are of good quality and price.

If you like Topshop, you’ll like Editorial. They have incredible clubber style pieces, albeit somewhat overpriced vis-a-vis the quality of some items. The good thing is they have a warehouse sale store right across the street from their main store

Zara

I didn’t want to add Zara to my list, since it’s one of the most painful shops to visit in Montreal, especially downtown. If there’s a business model for “how to lose sales,” check out (before checking out) the service challenged and organizationally suspect Zara Montreal downtown store. But to be completely fair, Zara has awesome pieces especially when it comes to shoes and bags. Want a DKNY looking shoe for $40 – Zara is the place to go.

Word on the street is that marijuana edibles are everywhere. Even cops eat them. In the last month or so it seems that every week a whole new category of whole foods shows up on the market. Mint Chocolate Bars, Pot Chips, Reef Jerky, Crème Brûlée, Root Beer, Medicated Gummy bears, Raspberry Macaroons and even Clean Healing Pizza Sauce.

Please be aware the these delicious foods can be very strong and are more dangerous then smoking.

Comparing effects of eating cannabis products and smoking them is difficult because there are large margins of error due to how different people smoke. Generally, however, because oral doses are processed by the digestive system they have delayed and lower peak concentrations, compared to inhaling them when cannabis is smoked.

Running A Website? Important SEO News About Google Search Ranking Changes

In recent history, Google’s iterations of search engine algorithm updates have prioritized websites that enhance content relevancy. Meaning, that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) administrators and technicians have had to ensure that the words on their website are REALLY contextually the same to the words they hope to show up first in searches. There is certainly more complexity to it than simply this, but the point is that Google has been trying to push their algorithm to rank such sites higher than ones who have less of the same words and synonyms and related words. For example, if a website sells hammers, having the words “hammer, hammers, nail, etc” repeatedly on the pages will increase the ranking. Obviously this can be manipulated in uncountable ways.

This latest iteration of their algorithm is significantly different. For the aforementioned reasons of perceived manipulation, and for other reasons, both guessable and inscrutable, Google will start prioritizing a new ranking signal focused purely on mobile site speed, as of July 1st 2018. Even though desktop website speed has been a ranking factor for almost eight years, Google will include just now mobile sites in the ranking equation.
Google recommends the use the new updated PageSpeed report and tools like LightHouse to measure page speeds and make improvements. Since the announcement it appears to be some confusion on Twitter and SEO blogs around the PageSpeed Update and whether it will impact indexing.

We can answer this for you: It won’t. Because indexing and ranking are two separate things.

Being indexed means that a site is listed inside Google. But that has no impact whatsoever on the cardinality of the ranking it will be given for any given search term. The top listed site and the site on page 483 are equally “indexed”. Purely it means that Google knows that your site exists, and it has it cataloged in their search engine.

Therefore, the meaning of “being ranked” is now clear. It means that your website is listed in Google for keywords associated to your content, with a specific ranking. And obviously, it is what is important. Being ranked means that you have the chance to have people visit your site through various keyword searches.

In deeply technical news, Google has also released the new Search Console that includes: Index Coverage, AMP (accelerated mobile pages) status, Job posting reports and more in-depth data, including clicks, impressions, CTRs, average ranking position, and current position, and will feed up to 16 months of back-dated data.

Index Coverage report automatically alerts when there’s an indexing error and can help trace the root of the problem. The AMP status will allow monitoring of the AMP performance, including how pages are displayed and if any errors are coming up. Google has confirmed it will use the AMP speed and not the canonical URL when determining the on-page speed for rankings.

There is still much more to the algorithm than just speed. Strong SEO practices are still fundamental.

Highly relevant on-page content makes up 5% of Google’s algorithm for ranking organic search results while the remaining 95% are off-page methods such as credible, relevant websites linking back to your brand. Without a sound off-page SEO strategy, businesses won’t rank for any keywords with commercial intent. Google has announced that this update will only affect a “very small” amount of businesses, and even then, it would only be the “super slow” sites.

Just how slow is too slow remains an unknown.

Study: Red Wine And Chocolate Will Make You Look Younger

New study says that the secret to staying youthful is eating chocolate and drinking red wine.

Not sure about you but I know what my dessert from now on will be.

Researchers from Exeter and Brighton universities applied compounds based on chemicals naturally found in red wine, dark chocolate, red grapes and blueberries to aging human cells and found out not only that the old cells appear younger, but they also started dividing again, as young cells would.

These foods are already known to be rich in flavonoids, which are popular for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

Snoop Dogg Is Coming To Montreal to Promote a Marijuana Venture!!

Its not a rumor anymore: Snoop Dogg Is Coming To Montreal for the 7th edition of C2 Montréal which will be held from May 23 to 25, 2018 at the Arsenal. C2 is an crazy hybrid of a TED Talk, a performance by Cirque du Soleil and an elite international business conference. Snoop will be talking about his venture capital firm Casa Verde Capital, which makes early-stage investments in startups in the ancillary cannabis industry. Casa Verde has already funded multiple major marijuana ventures including $2 million in funding for Canadian cannabis inventory management company Trellis.
